Interview with CB Dollaway

by Joshua Ottley of MMA-Underground.com

I would first like to say that I'm glad that you have taken the time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions for your fans on LATimes.com/MMA-Underground.com! That being said, what are the feelings you have about being secluded in the house?

It was very crazy being secluded with your competition. If it was only the house I could have handled that but when you combine the house with the competition, it is a lot to deal with. This show has created enormous opportunities for those that have taken advantage of the opportunity. That is what helped me through the rough spots.

Did you have any favorite ways to kill your boredom that aren't shown much on camera?

We would test "The List". We were told we can have almost anything we wanted, we just had to put it on "The List" and they would go get it. We started off with silly stuff like certain types of ice cream and it quickly morphed into specific cuts of meat and things like that.

What was your overall favorite past time there?

Watching the fights. The guys that fought put on great fights and I was always saying to myself that I can't believe I am seeing this live and this close. Outside of that it was the times spent in the house with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Who was your favorite member of the cast among the house residents?

Matt Riddle stood out, but a lot of the guys and I will be friends for a long, long time. For the most part there were some great cast mates.

Who was your least favorite?

Jeremy May, what a tool.

Yeah, the lemon juice thing didn't impress me much either. What is the most noteworthy victory or your fighting career, professional or otherwise?

Honestly it has yet to happen. I am too young and have too much to learn before I can call anything I have done noteworthy. In my wrestling career I would say my D1 All American status.

I indeed envy those with such a ranking. What would you say is your favorite style?

I love striking. I want to stand and bang with you, see what you are made of and go from there.

Nice! So, what would be the primary focus of your training, at present?

At Arizona Combat Sports we cover everything. We have Olympic level wrestling, world class strikers and some of the best jiu-jitsu guys in the world. I train three times a day six days a week, because I love it!

Sounds like an amazing place to be, for sure. I can see why Matt Riddle chose to make his recent move to your camp. What goes through your mind when you are about to enter the cage and in the time shortly after that?

Winning is what I train for so I am visualizing how I can win the fight. Afterwards I am usually second guessing my every move and trying to figure out how I can improve.

What went through your mind when you saw Matt Riddle K.O. Dan Simmler?

I saw it on TV and only heard it in the gym. When we were fighting to get into the house I was off in a far corner of the gym getting mentally ready to fight. I was not watching the fights, as the excitement of them would've cost me valuable energy. Luckily, Matthew talked about that KO the entire time we were filming.

I totally would too! How did you feel about having to fight your way into the house?

Loved the idea, everyone knew who wanted to be there.

How did it feel to win in such impressive fashion, so soon after that?

I was pleased that my fight went so quick, but at the same time, I was worried I had not shown the coaches and Dana enough. I knew I wanted to fight again and soon.

I would like to know one last thing before I let you go, CB. Do you see it as more of a luxury to be sponsored by big speaker companies, etc.? I would think it should at least add to your ability to party like a rock star, if you will!

They treat me well for sure. They have allowed me to train full time and when I was injured or away on the show they continued to support me. The sense of having a supportive base is worth more than all the parties in the world. We work hard and play hard and MTX has been doing that for years. They are great for the sport and do a lot for the up and coming fighters.

I'll tell you the same thing I told Matt Riddle. We really should head up to Canada and party together some time. All the beer is 5 percent alcohol here! Well, that's all for now, bro! All of my best to you, your family, sponsors and all of the Arizona Combat Sports training team! Take care!

Offer accepted, I love Canada and would have a blast. Thanks for the time and your interest in me so early in my career.

Special thanks to Jason Genet, President of LG Sports Marketing
